SPARKES REPLACES LEIBOWITZ AT BARCLAYS
Steve Sparkes is the new managing director and head of IT for the Americas at Barclays Capital in New York. Sparkes joins Barclays from Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB), where he most recently served as managing director of front office IT services. Earlier in his career, Sparkes served as vice president of fixed income technology at CSFB (Trading Systems Technology, September 19, 1994). At Barclays, Sparkes will report to Tom Kalaris, chief executive for the Americas, and Chip Steinmetz, head of IT. Sparkes and Steinmetz have paralleled each other before--Sparkes replaced Steinmetz as CSFB's head of technology after Steinmetz left CSFB to become managing director and head of fixed income technology for Union Bank of Switzerland (TST, April 15, 1996). But their respective positions at Barclays will mark the first time the two have worked together. Sparkes replaces Shelley Leibowitz, who held the position at Barclays for three months (TTW, March 30). According to a Barclays memo announcing the changes, Leibowitz left to spend more time with her family.
PRIMARK CEO MAY JOIN NEON'S BOARD
Primark chairman and CEO Joe Kasputys is rumoured to be joining the board of Englewood, Colorado-based New Era of Networks (Neon) at the end of the month. Neon supplies the securities industry with rules-based middleware and enterprise application integration software.
HAMNER JOINS NEW WALSH-LOWE OFFICE
IT consulting firm Walsh-Lowe/Constantin Group has appointed David Hamner managing director of their new San Francisco office. Hamner was director of the telecommunications consulting group at Flack & Kurtz. The San Francisco office is in addition to Walsh-Lowe's Hoboken, New Jersey headquarters and Chicago and London branches.
